Nostalgic memories from the 1950s and 1960s golden age of steam and music hall entertainment are recalled in By Rail to the Music Halls – a new book written by Lancashire-based historian David John Hindle and featuring a foreword by the son of comedian Eric Morecambe.
Hindle explains the early forging of links between rail travel and popular entertainment during the Victorian era before charting the relationship between locomotive transport and variety theatre well into the 60s through dozens of rare period pictures and colour photographs across 128 pages in hardback.

Author David Hindle is the president of Preston Historical Society and regularly gives interviews on regional TV and broadcasts on BBC Radio. Last year he was named the WWT Marsh Award winner for Community Wetland Conservation for monitoring wetlands wildlife in Grimsargh, Lancashire.
